6 Week Puppy Update — Evaluations are completed
At six weeks old, our Belgian Malinois puppies have entered one of the most revealing stages of early development. Confidence, coordination, drive, and personality continue to evolve rapidly as each puppy becomes more independent and begins showing clearer individual strengths and traits.
This week marked an important milestone for the litter as formal puppy evaluations were completed. Each puppy participated in a structured assessment designed to observe engagement, environmental confidence, recovery, prey and hunt drive, food motivation, social tendencies, and overall temperament. These evaluations help provide valuable insight into each puppy’s natural characteristics and assist in making the best possible placement decisions for their future homes.
Throughout testing, we observed a wide variety of emerging personalities and working traits. Some puppies displayed intense drive and bold confidence, while others showed thoughtful problem-solving, strong handler focus, curiosity, or a more cautious and observant approach. One of the most rewarding aspects of this stage is seeing how uniquely each puppy develops while still carrying the core traits expected from well-bred Belgian Malinois.
Environmental exposure continues to expand daily. The puppies are experiencing new surfaces, sounds, obstacles, toys, handling exercises, and social interactions to continue building confidence, adaptability, recovery, and stable nerve development during this critical learning period.
Play intensity and social interactions are also increasing significantly. Tugging, possession games, chasing, wrestling, exploration, and problem-solving behaviors are becoming more defined as confidence and physical coordination improve. Teething is fully underway, energy levels are climbing quickly, and the litter is becoming increasingly interactive with both people and each other.
As we move forward, individual placement traits become easier to identify and evaluate. While these early evaluations provide valuable information, development remains ongoing, and continued exposure and experience will continue shaping each puppy in the weeks ahead.
The foundation built during this stage plays a major role in producing confident, resilient, and well-rounded Belgian Malinois capable of thriving in demanding working environments while maintaining clear, stable temperaments and strong relationships with their future families.
